Each kind of coercion and violence leads to the corresponding kind of disintegration within human relationships. Each kind of disintegration within human relationships constitutes a threat to the various other kinds of integrity within human relationships. They are all intricately inter-related in the fabric of life. Personal integrity is essential to communal integrity. Communal integrity is essential to personal integrity. Being indifferent to any one kind of integrity is a threat to all kinds of integrity. Attempting to advance one kind of integrity at the expense of another kind of integrity is a threat to all kinds of integrity. Dishonesty does violence to cognitive, logical, rational and relational integrity --- and so threatens all other kinds of integrity. The use of dishonesty, and tolerance of the use of dishonesty as a manipulative tool, both threatens all kinds of integrity with tragic consequences to all persons involved/affected. Dishonesty undermines integrity in reflexive ways. The person(s) who initiate dishonest relationships become the victims of the disintegration which they initiate --- for the chain of disintegrative processes continues until abated by Love which is truly integrative in honest ways. Integrative role models are persons of integrity who work to build communities of integrity. When integrative role models are freely admired and emulated in the absence of coercion and violence --- healthy people and communities grow in integrity. In such situations creative persons invent new ways to be true to themselves and each other in integrative ways. They do not conform themselves due to coercion, violence or the imposition of powerful demands from outside of themselves. The imposition of powerful demands from "outside-in" attempts to force people to conform --- usually engender resentment, alienation, anger, rebellion --- and so engender personal and communal disintegration. This is true even when there are no longer any present external demands --- but introjected demands continue to operate internally through self disciplines which are coercive echoes of former external demands. We cannot be persons of integrity if we regularly ignore our own experiences and desires and/or ignore the experiences and desires of other persons. If external demands, rules, and regulations dominate to the extent that we regularly ignore our own and others' experiences and desires --- we disintegrate through dishonesty about what is unique about us and them. For the above reasons, conformity is not the key to personal and communal integrity. Conformity inhibits creativity and honesty whenever conformity comes through coercion and violence. When creativity and honesty are inhibited it is impossible to respond wisely to new situations, circumstances and contexts. The cosmos is full of change, and to be people and communities of integrity we must respond in changing ways to changing situations, circumstances and contexts. Personal and communal integrity depend upon the integrity of our personal RELATIONSHIPS. Coercion, violence and dishonesty undermine the integrity of our personal RELATIONSHIPS --- because all three of them inhibit open and honest dialogue which is the essence of healthy RELATIONSHIPS.
