None of these is very likely to elicit healthy community respect and support. Thus few people are likely to articulate self-referential theories because such articulations are unlikely to "pay off" in self-respect. People are not likely to deliberately act in ways which obviously will undermine their self respect. Their theory of self-respect inhibits such behavior, so their theory is unarticulated. The split of natural philosophy into objective quantitative sciences and non-quantitative reflexive philosophy was in part motivated by the desire to avoid dealing with self-referential theories to become more unbiased. The split was based upon the self-referential (but not articulated) theory that the avoidance of self- referential theories and the avoidance of the testing of self-referential theories would lead away from bias towards objective truth that would make the people who were following that lead into being far more truthful and objective, less biased people. Instead, the split has lead those people to conceal from themselves their own biases and to pretend that they have no self-referential theory which might lead to some particular bias against perceptions which are inconsistent with their actual self- referential theories. What has occurred is the inhibition of articulations of the existing self-referential theories. The whole educational process of scientists is based upon an unarticulated self-referential theory which can not be tested because it is unarticulated. The theory of science education is not articulated because it is self- referential in violation of scientists' value/ideal of always being objective. To articulate a theory of science education would violate scientists' professional taboos and invite rejection by peers.In a similar way it is virtually impossible to successfully articulate a theory of sex education because of the conflict between trying to be objective and trying to be open and honest with respect to sexuality.
