These essays present some observations regarding past creative scientific leadership, in the hope of stimulating wide ranging discussion and healthy competition towards scientific leadership in the modern world. These essays are written for all people who are young at heart and want to promote both scientific creativity and human integrity. Young people of all ages are encouraged to take advantage of the insights these essays offer. Scientific progress has been inhibited wherever brute physical force has dominated. Human coercion and violence undermine scientific creativity and integrity. The growth of modern science is gone hand in hand with the decline of coercive forms of human rule and government. Scientists' conclusions are unreliable if they are arrived at by researchers who are not free to design, conduct and discuss experiments without fear of reprisal. They must be free to examine carefully all the assumptions and presuppositions which lay the foundations for the experiment, and to discuss and publish their insights without fear of reprisal from any quarter. Scientific creativity is thus threatened when any particular group or idea gains power to the exclusion of power on the part of complementary and contrasting groups and ideas; either within or outside the scientific community. The integrity of scientists' theories depends upon their promoting both the personal and communal integrity of all persons affected by scientists' activities. The failure to integrate profound criticisms of scientists' activities into an integrative understanding of scientists' activities is a sign of a lack of integrity on the part of scientists.
