Yet Jack needs to express how he feels openly and honestly. However, Jack believes that men do not feel emotions, so there can be no need to express them. Jack has never met and acknowledged his own emotions because he has been taught that they are not real. Jack has an unmet need for which he has no name, and about which he is not free to think or talk. Jill has been taught that women never assert themselves in opposition to men. Jill perceives things differently than does Mr. Science. Because she is a woman who has had different gender-specific past experiences, Jill has science learning needs which are different than those of a male who has been taught to have different needs than she has been. Jill has unmet needs for which she and her society have no name, and about which she is not free to be assertive. Jack and Jill's needs complement each other and stand in the way of each other's fulfillment by getting unmet needs which are unmet by virtue of collusive behavior which denies their reality and legitimacy, so that they remain unmet, unacknowledged and unnamed. Neither Jack nor Jill can devise means by which to achieve the fulfillment of their unmet/unknown needs. They can only be met by others who have had such needs met by others who were familiar with them. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
