In each instance perverted efforts to meet needs leads to violence and alienation, with "positive" feed-back loop effects. Perverted behavior creates conditions for its own growth. Increasing effort and technical sophistication will not disconnect the feed-back loop, and in fact such efforts are prone to lead to more intense and sophisticated forms of perversion and violence. Indifference, alienation, crime, and war are parts of a perverse cycle. To break the cycle we must perceive and sympathetically understand how the parts of the cycle relate to each other through our feelings, thoughts, understandings, decisions, and actions. Emotionally starved people cannot steal emotional satisfactions as successfully as food-starved people can steal food. Yet emotionally starved people occasion much violence in their efforts to coerce others into giving them the emotional satisfaction for which they hunger---without knowing just what it is for which they hunger. Efforts to manipulate inter-personal relationships in order to satisfy emotional needs are by their nature violent, and fail to satisfy emotional needs. Such efforts undermine people's willingness to be open and honest in a non-manipulative community. The manipulative efforts thus undermine the integrity of the community within which emotional needs might be met in a healthy way. To break the cycle of alienation we must share our insights into the dynamics of the cycle and share insights into how we can with love transcend the alienative feed-back loop. Healthy conflict resolution depends upon laying healthy foundations for the building of integrity within persons and their communities. Integrity entails openness and honesty, and respect for individual differences. Integrity cannot be based upon conformity to restrictive standards for correct behavior. People grow with and into integrity through the respect of persons as unique persons, not through the respect for standards of conduct as being more important and valuable than persons as persons.
