Fragmentive extremists are conceived and born in contests between ultimate ideals, values, goals, and technocratic methods of advancing them. There are contests at many levels regarding which the following questions are relevant: 1. Which goals/accomplishments will be affirmed, worked for, supported, respected and honored? 2. Which leaders/managers/controllers will be affirmed, worked for, supported, respected and honored? 3. Which procedures/processes/methodologies will be affirmed, worked for, supported, respected and honored? 4. Which ideals/values/principles/criteria will be affirmed, worked for, supported, respected and honored? 5. Which, if any, of the above will be dominant and/or have continuing control over the others --- and so be affirmed, worked for, supported, respected and honored? The ultimate issues/conflicts of life have to do with how the above are/not maintained in healthy balance --- through endless cycles of new perceptions, re- interpretations, revelations, mistakes, tragedies, confessions, reconciliations, healing, idealism, confusion, arrogance, self-righteousness, . . . Attempts to end the cycles of conflict --- to the advantage of some particular contestants in the cycles of conflict --- are attempts which engender even higher levels of conflict among the contestants. Confronted with such attempts the contestants become more willing to use extreme means/measures which lead to fragmentation, alienation and so to both personal and communal disintegration. Balance grows out of endless healthy cycles of open and honest dialogue --- which engender mutual respect, understanding and support. When the processes of open and honest dialogue end --- the processes of disintegrative conflict become dominant in tragic ways. No form of dominance will end disintegrative conflicts. Conflicts and violence dominate in the absence of endless cycles of open and honest dialogue among people who are earnestly in search of integrity and honesty --- with mutual respect, understanding, cooperation and support. Dis-integration grows out of the endless efforts of fragmentive extremists to exclude from consideration all but their few and narrow concerns. Purity for them means the exclusion of many complementary consideration. When fragmentive extremists dominate considerations --- balance is impossible; for to fragmentive extremists --- balance is evil. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
