They become preoccupied with what the words early in the list point to --- and fail to recognize the importance of dealing with what the words late in the list point to. When we seek to deal with what we regard as evil and which is located outside of our relationships --- we often make the mistake of making matters worse, rather than better. We are lead into tragic blunders in our confusion and ignorance in regards to what is the nature of evil. Evil has to do with RELATIONSHIPS characterized by alienation, confusion and ignorance. Such relationships involve us. We cannot be objective and unbiased about evil relationships. They make us ill, ill-willed, dis-eased, ill-at-ease and sick in heart, mind, body and spirit. When we try to control that which we cannot control --- we do so in ways which are dishonest and alienative; estranged in arrogant ways from those whom we week to control. We are prone to excommunicate ourselves from those whom we seek to control---but in our confusion we focus upon them as being excommunicated from us. We thus make ourselves ignorant of how they are likely to respond to our efforts --- and lay firm foundations for making many mistakes because of our ignorance, confusion and arrogance self-righteousness. We cannot help others to avoid tragic mistakes --- while we are making many tragic mistakes in failing to take good care of our own selves. Our addictions and codependent relationships lead us into foolish attempts to fix, control, rescue and prevent that which is beyond our power. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
