They want to reduce complexity to a few simple fundamentals about which they can be sure without a doubt. Simple minded people seek to fix complicated situations by reducing them to their presumed simple fundamentals---with simple prescriptions about what should always be done by-the-book. Temptations have to do with saying "YES" or "NO" to clear cut alternatives between dichotomous opposites. Simple minded people are not inclined to talk honestly about the reality of continuous spectrums of alternatives or about the many possibilities which need to be prioritized in order to affirm a few of the best among many good alternatives. Dealing honestly with the realities of being true to self and others can be too complicated to the simple minded---and so they often engage in collusive games of mutual self deception by which they pretend that the complexity is not real. Life is simple and should be responded to according to a few simple rules and prohibitions. Freedom to make choices appropriate to uniquely different people's potentials, needs and desires makes life too complicated, ambiguous and uncertain. Simple minded people sometimes are so afraid of making mistakes --- that they want to avoid liberation, healing and empowerment which would confront them with the responsibility to make their own choices---rather than to respond as computers do according to clear cut formulas, prescriptions and commands given to them by some mysterious higher being which created the computers and which creatures the computers cannot understand.
