The destruction, inhibition, repression, etc. of the incarnations of the conflicting ideals and values will not resolve the conflict among those conflicting ideals and values; and may, in fact, heighten the level of violent activity among the combatants. Conflict resolution entails integrative activity wherein the participant incarnations work together to discover the most creative syntheses of their respective ideals and values. It is absurd to believe that members of one specie have absolutely fundamental conflicting interests which are ultimately important to the individual members of the specie. Conflict resolution is integrative activity which leads to mutual understanding regarding what the participants' ultimately most integrative interests are. Conflict resolution does not come through battles, wars, and violence; it comes through integrative efforts which promote both the personal and communal integrity of all persons affected by the conflicts which have engulfed the participant incarnations of the conflicting ideals and values. It is essential in conflict resolution work to come to an understanding of the contexts within which each value affirmation is appropriate. Some affirmations are appropriate within one context, but lead to conflict when affirmed in other contexts in which other values are more important. When subsidiary values are affirmed with excessive enthusiasm, affirmations often are inappropriate to the context in which they are made, and conflict results. Conflict resolution often has to do with contextual perception and noting the difference between appropriate and inappropriate affirmations of significant values and ideals. When differences are clearly recognized, it is easier to avoid making inappropriate affirmations which engender conflict. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
