To develop an unbiased consensus all the participants in the process need to become honestly aware of all the conflicts present among their differing assumptions, perceptions, values and ideals---and to resolve such conflicts to the mutual satisfaction of all participants. The systematic exclusion of any unpopular point of view or person from representation in the development of a consensus makes the consensus which does develop be biased in nature. To systematically ignore what some people sense to be important is to bias the consensus. To use nay form of coercion, or of unbalanced/unchecked power will bias the results. The blockage of any desire to communicate openly and honestly leads to bias. Bias is introduced each time a person is rejected, shunned, excommunicated or otherwise excluded from participation in and contributing to the creation of the unity which is the essence of a community. Whatever threatens personal or communal integrity introduces bias into any communal consensus. An unbiased consensus is the creation of a community in search of meaningful integrity with love, power and justice shared joyfully by all. An unbiased consensus is a realistic possibility, comprehensive humane objectivity is not a realistic possibility. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
