The members of such communities are not debilitated by fear, guilt, shame, anxiety, and alienation. They do not attempt to use such negative realities as tools to achieve any purpose, for they know that such negative realities have the power to pervert any purpose, no matter how noble. Rather, members of these powerful coherent communities are dedicated to promoting the coherence, the integrity, the dialogue of the community. It is only as the members of the community desire and find pleasure in intimate dialogue with diverse others---that the community coheres and has powerful integrity. Any behavior which promotes fear, guilt, shame, anxiety, and alienation thus weakens the community. Coherent communities are more able to grow and survive in threatening environments---than are communities divided by fear, guilt, shame, anxiety, and alienation. Members of coherent communities are free to perceive and understand the meaning of change; they are not coerced by traditions, taboos, and legalistic systems to perceive and behave in ways suited to the past. They are not required to limit themselves to merely technical combinations of old ideas and perceptions; they are free to perceive and discuss revolutionary new ways of feeling, thinking, analyzing, and responding to their changing physical and non-physical environment. Adaptability is valued and newness is encouraged. Mistakes are accepted and valued as means to learning and discovery. Mistakes do not occasion fear, guilt, shame, anxiety, and alienation; rather they occasion communal learning, and increased adaptability. Communal integrity and power flow from a dedication to the promotion of dialogue. This of necessity involves a profound disavowal of the use of negative realities such as fear, guilt, shame, anxiety, and alienation for any purpose whatever. The members of the powerful community are those people who share such a dedication and disavowal and know each other intimately, even though they may be embedded in a larger "community" which is characterized by mutual suspicion, fear, guilt, shame, anxiety, and alienation growing out of their mutual manipulations of each other in the service of selected purposes.
