Most parents do not understand and are embarrassed by their own sexuality. They feel threatened by the fact that traditional ways of understanding, predicting, and control are impotent when it comes to sexual relationships. The scientists, religious leaders, legalists, and other academic scholars seem not to have succeeded in offering non-embarrassing ways of participating in sexual relationships within a generally supportive context. That which is powerful and beyond our understanding, prediction, and control---tends to threaten us, and we fear it. Parents who have not learned how to participate meaningfully in sexual relationships which are humane, mutual, and socially affirmed---thus regard sexuality with fear; and fear that their children will become the victims of sexuality. To protect their children from sexuality such parents try to throw a cloak of secrecy over sexuality---as if secrecy were enough. Many parents recognize that secrecy is not enough to repress children's making sexual discoveries on their own. For this reason, taboos, collusions, and their threats of punishment are instituted. The most fearful and desperate parents promote sexual ignorance and laws which will make it risky for young people to experiment sexually without the females getting pregnant. While deliberately withholding information about contraception and making abortions illegal, they intend to punish young people who dare to learn experimentally what their parents did not dare to teach them about sexual relationships. The unwanted babies are intended to be the means of punishing the young women who will be required to take care of them for many years. This use of babies to punish sexually venturesome women is often promoted by people who claim to be promoting the "right to life". In reality they want to use babies to punish young people who seek to learn about sexuality---when their society fails to provide and/or undermines efforts at providing humane education about humane sexuality.
