In the world of personal relationships attractions may involve relational possibilities. Jack may be attracted to the intimate possibilities which are apparent in a possible relationship with Jill, even before Jill is aware of those possibilities. When Jack communicates his interest in those possibilities via a glance Jill may, or may not, show interest in and attraction to the possibilities which Jack has realized might exist, and so realized into possible existence. The intimate relationships do not yet exist fully, they exist only as recognized possibilities; yet, earlier they did not exist even as recognized possibilities. That which did not exist as a conscious reality thus becomes a conscious possibility to which Jack and Jill may be attracted. In the reflexive world attractions exist between relational possibilities. The relationships which might exist may be the focus of attraction, rather than objects which do exist. Attention is just as much focused upon relationships as upon objects. Objects in the absence of personal relationships are not personally interesting or attractive. An unresponsive person is not involved in attractive personal relationships because an unresponsive person is not relational, but objective. Jack,if healthy, is not attracted to Jill as an object, but as whole person who might be a participant in an attractive personal relationships. The possible relationship is attractive, not the object Jill. If Jill indicates no interest, or else indicates aversion, to such a relationship---then Jack perceives that the attractive relationship is not possible and so is not attracted to it, because it is not possible---because it is not possible, it is not attractive. Some realities are real because they are both poss- ible and mutually attractive to the possible participants. The possibilities are real as possibilities---before they are realized in actual objective behavior. There are different kinds of realities; not all realities involve objects and/or objective behavior. Some realities are possibilities which are attractive. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
