Objective realities are those upon which all important people agree. It is presumed that if all important people agree that something is objectively real, it is. It is presumed that it is clear who the important people are. Thus scientists get confused about what is real and what is not real. Via collusions they may agree on unwarranted consensus about explanations---even though no scientific effort has been made to gather data to test hypothetical explanations. The conclusions drawn may be determined solely by collusions, not by data or analysis. Science teachers often join in the unwarranted consensus that their students fail because the students: are not bright, are not creative, are not trying, etc. They arrive at this consensus without examining alternative explanations for the students' failures, and without seeking data which might be the basis for selecting the most supportable explanation for their students' failures. Their unwarranted consensus is occasioned by their biases and collusions, not by any scientific effort to discover the truth. Their search for the truth is inhibited by selfish interests, professional values, and traditions. Professionals may be willing to admit that selfish interests and traditions might inhibit the search for truth, but they tend to join in an unwarranted consensus that their highest values could not possibly inhibit the search for truth---because the search for truth is their highest value. They have joined in the unwarranted consensus that only their kinds of truth are of value--- without a careful examination of other kinds of truth and data which bears on the value of other kinds of truth. They rarely have examined the various possibilities which are of interest to persons unlike themselves and with whom they are not in dialogue. Being uninformed about such different possibilities, they are not in a position to draw conclusions regarding them.
