His denial occasions Jill's taking a more extreme position on feminism in order to try to advance her cause. Jill goes to the extreme of denying any merit to any of Jack's criticisms of anything which any feminist has ever said. This convinces Jack that there can not be any merit in anything which any feminist has ever said. Jill regards such a position as absurd and concludes that only feminists speak any truth; all that others say is to be doubted. Each mirrors the other's move to a more extreme position, plus some. Neither acknowledges any merit in the other's perceptions. Their posturing blocks all dialogue between them. Neither listens to nor hears what the other is saying. They become isolated, estranged, alienated sinners in the state of sin. In their extreme dedication to their own goods they come to regard the other as evil agents of the devil, and engage in holy prayers, rituals, liturgies, and wars against the other. Jack does not initially see any merit in Jill's feminist contentions. He listens carefully to what she is affirming and seeks to understand her point of view and feelings. To discover how full is his understandings he tries to say in his own words, what he understands Jill to be affirming, and asks Jill to confirm his representation of her affirmation, if he is accurate in his representation. Jill can not understand initially why he twists things so. She listens carefully to how Jack says things and seeks to understand his feelings as well as his cognitive statements. She slowly comes to understand what he is trying to affirm, even as he is trying to represent what he understood her to be affirming. Jill asks Jack to confirm her understanding or what he is trying to affirm. When Jack perceives her understanding he becomes more free to become aware of and affirm that which Jill was seeking to affirm---but could not without his assistance. Working together they come to clearer understandings of what they were each seeking to know and affirm, and join in helping each other clarify each other's awareness and understanding---and so they come to a state of mutual awareness and mutual understanding which is in great contrast to the state of sin.
