To legalists God is a God of law. To those concerned with knowledge God is omniscient. To those concerned with power God is omnipotent. Those with great concern about human beginnings and endings see God as eternal. people who are troubled by change see God as transcending change by being unchanging. Those preoccupied with the fragmentation of their lives see God as indivisible, One. Those who are preoccupied with physical laws see God as the originator of those laws. People caught up in historical meaning see God as the God of history. Those suffering injustice see God as the God of Justice. Those imprisoned by guilt see God as forgiving in transcendent ways. Those seeking group unity through war against their chosen/created enemy see God as the righteous super- warrior on their side. Those preoccupied with their personal problems seek a God concerned with setting straight their confused lives. Those who see love as the central force in life see God as the God of Love. It is interesting that the Christian Church which has preached a gospel of a God of Love has been silent for centuries about the erotic as a positive aspect of life and of God. The God of Love is strangely non-erotic and his church is often preoccupied with controlling erotic desires, rather than in facilitating their creative and loving expression. God is not pictured by Christians as a God of eros in any positive, vivid, or seductive way. God is not a seductive power drawing humans into creatively erotic relationships which fulfill participants. Before mono-theism people attributed excellence in the various aspects of life to diverse super-beings, gods. There was no problem of unifying all the aspects into one God, as is the case in mono-theism. Poly-theism tended to foster pluralism in ways which mono-theism did not. It may be the God of Love is not pornographically pictured as a God of Eros because other concerns of more technical natures tend to dominate the representation of god in images created by men. The theological idols tend to concentrate on laws, knowledge, power, time, history, guilt, justice, etc; to the exclusion of supremely intimate personal relationships. Is God also supreme in humor?
