Real situations tend not to fulfill ideal expectations. Thus idealists experience frustrations. Such frustrations motivate many emotionally immature idealists to seek escape into the world of ideal forms. The world of ideal forms consists of generalizations which ignore the imperfections characteristic of unique realities. Only that which is common to many unique realities is incorporated into the ideal forms. This is true whether the ideal forms be of objects, or of other realities; relationships, laws, processes, social structures, etc. By ignoring what is unique to each situation idealists find what is common to many similar situations and make verbal/quantitative statements about such common factors. That which is common is regarded as the ideal form which is more real than the real unique situations which served as the basis for formulating the ideal form. The world of ideal forms may be complex, but it is orderly and predictable. Ambiguity, uncertainty, imperfection, uniqueness, and similar traits are not welcome in the world of ideal forms---a world ruled by persons who do not know how to cope meaningfully with such traits. By creating a world over which they may rule unchallenged such persons find a form of security. While they may have disagreements about political power in the world of ideal forms, such disagreements are no where near as threatening as the ambiguities, uncertainties, imperfections, and unique situations of the politics of allocating scarce resources in open, democratic, accountable ways of the real world community. In the modern world the scientific community is dependent upon the world community for resources, support, and sympathy. There is danger in support of the alienated scientific community---for through the lack of meaningful dialogue the implications of scientific discovery and engineering applications are likely to by inhumane implications. When scientists escape into the world of ideal forms, they tend to withdraw from the world community of humane personal relationships with non- technically oriented people who do not value techniques exclusively.
