Often the stages are clearly sequential and build upon what has been learned and internalized in previous stages. It may be impossible to grow further in the absence of the learing which is characteristic of passing successfully through one of the stages. 1. There are stages in growth in the understanding of objective interactions between/among objects; existential, concrete-operational, theoretical, etc. 2. There are stages in growth in the understanding of subjective/reflexive interactions between/among humans; total-dependence, self-awareness, ego- development, egocentricity, narcissism, interdependence, cooperation, communal-responsibility, etc. 3. There are stages in growth in the understanding of spiritual and abstract realities and inter- relationships; personal-experiences, personal-defenses, concept-development, language-development, relationship- development, friendships, intimacies, etc. 4. There are stages in growth in the ability to participate-in, facilitate, and promote cooperation, hospitality, civility, personal-integrity, communal- integrity, etc. 5. There are stages in growth in the ability to deal meaningfully with enumeration quantification, arithmetic measurement, computation, geometry, algebra, vectors, differential-calculus, integral-calculus, vector- differential-calculus, vector-integral-calculus, matrix- arithmetic, matrix-equations, matrix-alegbra, matrix- differential-calculus, matrix-integral-calculus, differential-equations, integral-equasions, matrix- equasions, matrix-operator-equasions, etc. 6. There are stages in growth in integrative participation in political processes within the academic, scientific, secular, religious, and spiritual worlds. In each of the growth processes people who live on one-side of a transitional-stage, often have difficulty communicating with people on the other-side of the transitional-stage. They may not understand each other. Especially the people on the early side of a growth- transition are unable to understand people on the later- side of a growth-transition; but often people on the later- side of a growth-trasition can and do understand people on the early-side of the growth-transition through which they have already passed. These difficulties in communication are often associated with religious, political and economic wars; both figurative and literal ones. We will do well to improve our understandings of how to promote effective communications between people on opposite-sides of such canyons of misunderstanding --- so that we can be more effective in conflict-resolution and peacemaking. Such efforts will be difficult, because die-hard domineering people will oppose peace-making and conflict-resolution efforts which will undermine their presumed ability to be dominant and/or "in-control".
