Some kinds of foci engender much more conflict than do other kinds of foci. Contentious people focus upon disintegrative kinds of foci; and in contrast gentle people focus upon integrative kinds of foci. It is not only the kinds of foci which play a major role in how much conflict is engendered by the people who center their attention in conflicts over them. The attitudes, assumptions, beliefs, convictions, commitments, personal relationships, and manners of approach to each other and their work --- play major roles in whether they engender conflicts, or conflict resolution; i.e., peacemaking. It is for each member of each community to sort out which kinds of foci and manners of centering on them --- leads to which kinds of fruits. The following are suggestive of the kinds of foci which play major roles in various ways: 1. Goals and processes for reaching goals. 2. Images of perfection and healthy relationships. 3. Images of security and forms of vulnerability. 4. Affirmed dreams, visions and aspirations. 5. Forms of personal and/or communal salvation. 6. Formal versus informal processes/procedures. 7. Creative versus preservative efforts. 8. Idealization of stability versus growth. 9. Idealization of objectivity versus relationships. 10. Reverence of youth versus of maturity. 11. Spiritual versus physical foci. 12. Individualistic versus communal foci. 13. Attention to presence/being versus action/doing. 14. Care/concern for self versus for others. 15. Distinction in extremes versus in balance. 16. Valuing inclusivity versus exclusivity. 17. Not making mistakes versus learning from them. 18. Simplicity versus complexity in living. 19. Solving problems versus resolving dilemmas. 20. Achieving dominance versus being cooperative. 21. Security through invulnerability or cooperation. 22. Love and/or prohibitions, prescriptions, laws. 23. Coercion and/or facilitation. 24. Teaching by lecture and/or by demonstration. 25. Teaching what is good by word and/or deed. 26. Define good in terms of conformity or relations. 27. Define God in terms of love or in terms of laws. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
