Not so often have good well-intended people articulated what "should" be done and by whom --- in order to deal "properly" with people who do not do what they "should" do; including cases when people do not do what they "should" do to deal "properly" with people who do not do what they "should" do. Much of our difficulty in regards to the above has to do with the fact that there is no well verified theory about helping people fulfill expectations regarding moral and ethical codes. For example, what is the level of importance of each of the following? 1. Preaching at people about what is "right". 2. Setting high standards about what is "right". 3. Supporting mothers of young children. 4. Supporting early and effective schooling. 5. Supporting newly married couples in beginning healthy marriages. 6. Rewarding only people who work diligently. 7. Punishing people who do wrong. 8. Teaching college courses in ethics/morality. 9. Promoting conflict resolutions in schools. 10. Returning religious training to public schools. 11. Paying adequate wages to child-care personnel. 12. Regarding universal health care as good insurance for communal integrity. 13. Locking up repeat offenders with no parole. 14. Working to promote humane reconciliation. 15. Developing adequate theories of humane behavior. 16. Many other possibilities might be listed. It is one thing to articulate how good people should behave in the presence of good people. It is a far more difficult thing to articulate how good people should behave in the presence of "bad", "imperfect", "confused", "ignorant", "prejudiced", "evil", "immoral", "un-ethical", "poor", "unsuccessful", and "criminal" people. For good well-intended people to be more effective in helping others to behave in ways which are supportive of personal and communal integrity --- there will need to be broader and deeper agreement among good well- intended people --- regarding how they should behave when others behave in ways which threaten both personal and communal integrity through: ARROGANCE SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS PERFECTIONISM INTOLERANCE PREJUDICE CONFUSION ADDICTION CODEPENDENCE NAIVETE IGNORANCE JUDGEMENTALISM CONDEMNATIONS EXCOMMUNICATIONS INJUSTICE DEFENSIVENESS COERCION How "good" people respond to unconventional people --- often has much to do with how such unconventional people behave in the future. Often "good" people do not acknowledge the nature of their influence upon the behavior upon creative people --- who cannot fulfill their integrative potentials without being unconventional. Creative people may be lead to become defensive, non-communicative, and rebellious --- when "good" people who are preoccupied with issues of control attempt to play dominant roles in their lives.
