Sin is the condition of being alienated. Sins are failures which flow from the condition of being alienated. Not all failures which flow from the condition of being alienated are alike. Failures differ in ways which depend upon: 1. The age of the person. Children fail in ways which are different from adolescents, middle aged people, and very elderly people. It is foolish to ignore differences which flow from differences among people. 2. Differences among the levels and kinds of education of various persons. 3. Differences in how much money, influence, and power people have. 4. Differences between the kinds and amounts of leadership responsibilities and official duties which people have. 5. Differences in how many people are dependent upon persons for financial, emotional, technical and other kinds of support. 6. Differences in the number and extent of disabilities and diseases which persons suffers from. 7. Differences in hereditary characteristics among persons. 8. Differences in how many people are involved in a pattern of behavior in a collective way --- acting as an intentional or unintentional group. 9. Cultural, professional, religious and other differences which engender contextual variations among people. To deal wisely and prudently with alienation, and the consequences of alienation, we need to recognize, name, describe and talk about the various ways in which alienation is engendered; and what are the various kinds of consequences of alienation --- in terms of mistakes, errors, failures, trespasses, "sins" and all of the like results which flow from alienation --- which in turn engender additional alienation in a vicious cycle of personal and communal disintegration.
