Often their fixes make matters worse, rather than better; either because of the nature of the prescribed fix, or because of the alienative ways in which the fixes are imposed upon the situations. Many fixes make matters worse because the fixes are imposed by "busy-bodies" who are not invited, and are not welcomed. Some fixes make matters worse because the fixes are prescribed on the basis of inadequate information, misunderstandings, false assumptions, and unverified theories of cause-and-effect. Other fixes make matters worse because they are generated in keeping with a paradigm which is unsuited to the situation at hand: objective, subjective, reflexive, intimate, sexual, spiritual, business, political, quantitative, qualitative, personal, etc. Fixes which are the fruits of collusive games of mutual self-deception are rarely helpful to anybody. Personal relationships cannot be fixed without the mutual understanding and cooperation of the participants in the personal relationships. Outsiders cannot fix the personal relationships of insiders, nor vice-versa. Alienated people cannot fix each other's relationships without reconciliation. Thus reconciliation is the first step towards improved personal relationships. If alienated people fail to seek and find common ground, it is highly unlikely that they will enjoy improved personal relationships. Because words often mean different things to different people --- people may approach and use the same texts in contrasting ways with contrasting outcomes. Some people may approach and use a given text so that it points the way to liberation and improved personal relationships. Other people may approach and use the same text as a manipulative tool --- whose use leads to increased alienation, resentment, anger, coercion and violence. The outcome of focusing upon a text depends greatly upon how people approach and use the text. Beware of fixes which make matters worse, rather than better. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
