We are often tempted by the notion that it is evil for us to rest, relax, sleep or be at leisure---so long as there is anybody in our area whom we might go out and rescue from their pain, suffering, poverty, foolishness, or addictions. We are often tempted by the suggestion that we must transcend our limitations by trying harder, with greater dedication and without any faltering in faith. We need to take note that often we become depressed, joyless, disagreeable, touchy, peevish, irritable, cross, grumpy, resentful, uncooperative, conflict-ridden, ill-at- ease, dis-eased and even violent---when we drive ourselves beyond our human limits, fail to rest or relax, and refuse to be honest about our human limitations. When we try to be like God and act as if we are God, we are prone to be like a devil and act like a devil, and to think highly of ourselves in the darkness of our limitless contentious efforts.
