Such people find it difficult to let go of their compulsive concerns with issues of control and means to exercise control. They find it nearly impossible to perceive human relationships apart from questions of control and/or loss of control. Their questions are not whether or not it is healthy to be concerned with issues of control, and whether attempts to be in control promote personal and communal integrity? Their questions are focused upon which techniques of control are best, who is to be in control, and what requirements of conformity are to be enforced? People who are dominated by addictive attitudes and patters of thought cannot understand that it is possible for people to live healthy lives involving honestly intimate relationships which are not the product of any form of: control, legal rules, moral laws, required discipline, duty, loyalty or obedience imposed from outside. To consider such a possibility is too threatening for them to contemplate. They cannot without bias seek to discover if such people of integrity do exist. They are prone to approach such liberated people of integrity in a way which makes it risky for such liberated people of integrity to be honest and reveal their true natures. People who are dominated by addictive attitudes and patterns of thought are made uncomfortable when any person of integrity teaches that it is good to visit prisoners in their prisons of disintegrative attitudes, ideals and values---to liberate them from whatever imprisons them, to cloth the down-trodden people of little political power in vestments of self-esteem, to feed those who hunger for the truth with true descriptions of real human experiences, or to bind up the wounds of those violated by efforts to control them. Such people of integrity have been crucified for teaching such things in word and deed, for they threaten the power of dominant people to be in control, or to at least appear to be in control. Honesty is not appreciated when it reveals the the collusive games of mutual self deception of powerful people who are preoccupied with issues of control. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
