Legalists and moralizers do not recognize and deal with the fact that the language of their injunctions, prohibitions and taboos does not communicate the same meaning to all who hear it. Different people understand and interpret language differently; often in highly contrasting ways. The nature of the paradigm is such that this fact cannot be openly and honestly admitted, for to do so would violate the paradigm. 2. Often when people do understand in the same way what is called for by injunctions, prohibitions and taboos; the calls elicit contrary responses, rather than responses of respect and conformity---because the calls which people hear are manipulative, coercive, dishonest, unjust, collusive, and violent. People of integrity cannot with integrity respond to such calls in conformity to the intent of the call; and neither can people who lack integrity respond to such calls in conformity to the intent of the call. The calls for conformity are futile. 3. The calls of legalists and moralizers usually require striving to achieve levels of perfection which are impossible to attain; and so constitute the laying of the foundations for personal judgmentalism, rejections, excommunications, alienation, and evil relationships. The calls usually lead to perfecting standards which are used in passing alienative judgements, rather than in encouraging personal and communal integrity. 4. The calls of legalists and moralizers rarely serve as the foundations for liberating people to be true to themselves and each other in open and honest dialogue; in integrative relationships wherein they truly come to know and understand each other as unique whole persons in their own right, rather than in trying to conform to external standards. Often the calls lead to: enslavement rather than liberation, disintegration rather than integration, misunderstanding rather than understanding, judgmentalism rather than perfection. 5. Legalists and moralizers are more interested in promoting appearances of conformity than they are interested in promoting honest dialogue, personal integrity or communal integrity. 6. Legalists and moralizers are trying to control what is beyond their power to control: perceptions, feelings, insights, experiences, truths, understandings, intimate relationships, sexuality, behaviors, responses, reactions, salvation, redemption, prayer communities, etc. 7. Legalists and moralizers are trying to reduce the dissonance between their expectations and their unfolding reality by coercively manipulating other people; rather than by developing truly realistic and honest expectations within themselves.
