If pleasures are regarded as rewards for conformal behavior, and are permitted only rarely; then in search of some form of stimulation we are bound to seek out and promote disintegrative forms of stimulation; for they are preferable to no stimulation. It is disintegrative to block integrative pleasures and to regard pleasures as rewards for conformal behavior; for doing so is bound to motivate and lead people to seek out and promote disintegrative forms of stimulation through the creation of crises and the maintenance of patterns of conflict. People who have not been permitted to enjoy integrative pleasures, and who are permitted pleasures only as rewards for conformal behavior, will work to undermine open and honest conflict resolution; so as to gain the stimulations of continued conflict, violence and tension. They work to promote stimulation in the only ways they have been permitted to do so. When they do so they generate additional conflicts which bring them additional stimulations. From the perverted point of view that they have been taught to adopt, they cannot lose; they are sure to be stimulated through the promotion of crises and conflicts. They are terrified at the thought of conflicts being resolved. If we are to avoid total disintegration we will do well to understand the motivation of such people and what motivates and leads those people who systematically work to undermine conflict resolution efforts on the part of integrative people and communities.
