Often in the collusive society with addicts and supportive codependents, guilt and/or shame are promoted for manipulative purposes. In such instances guilt and/or shame are confusing, not helpful; not based upon an honest appraisal of the natural consequences of decisions and actions apart from collusive conspiracies to manipulate persons' perceptions, feelings, thoughts and behaviors. Healthy guilt and/or shame pertain to instances where a person has willfully done violence to their own, another's, or their community's integrity and health. Honestly acknowledged disintegrative behavior is associated with healthy guilt and/or shame. Dishonestly manipulated behavior is associated with unhealthy guilt and/or shame. In the society which is behaving like an addict/codependent, unhealthy guilt and/or shame are dis-integratively promoted for manipulative reasons which are not honestly acknowledged. The manipulators do not experience healthy guilt and/or shame because of their unhealthy manipulations of guilt and/or shame. The last statement can be taken in two ways; and each way points to a truth. Fanatical religious leaders, moralists and systematic perfectionists often seek to control others through the manipulation of guilt and/or shame; and experience no healthy guilt and/or shame due to their evil behavior. They regard their evil behavior to be good behavior because they presume to know the difference between good and evil for other people. They have eaten of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil which is in the midst of the Garden. They do not regard the essence of evil to be alienation; thinking that the essence of evil is non-conformity to proper standards of acceptability. People who do not meet their standards of acceptability are rejected; alienated from the "good" people by the "good" people in self- righteous excommunications. Such "good" people create evil through their alienations. They are behaving in the manner of addicts/codependents engaged in collusive games of mutual self deception. They have eyes, but do not see. They have ears, but do not hear. They have hearts, but do not feel. They have minds, but do not think. They have souls, but do not pray. They are the living dead who need to be reborn through resurrection into a new life which is grounded in Love shaking the foundations of old disintegrative being, to create new integrative beings, with the courage to become true to themselves, within open and honest relationships, which are grounded in being Truth within Love's Way of Life.
