They make a virtue of detachment, objectivity and subdued emotions. They regard with suspicion personal involvement, subjectivity and open and honest expressions of emotions. They respect cognitive processes involving sophisticated/complex mathematical procedures; and suspect cognitive processes which are totally lacking in mathematical sophistication/complexity. It is well to note that when it comes to interpersonal human relationships virtually no meaningful discoveries can be achieved through manipulations, dissections, measurements, detachment, objectivity, subdued emotions, and/or mathematical sophistication/complexity. The discoveries which can be made by such procedures most often pertain to whether or not a person's physiology is abnormal or diseased in some serious way; and does not pertain to a person's ideals, values, attitudes, thoughts, emotions, desires, etc. Attempts to manipulate, dissect and measure people to learn something about them; engender responses by which the people seek to prevent discovery. When we are approached in detached, objective and unemotional ways by others; we become defensive and seek to prevent those who approach us in such ways from discovering any meaningful aspects of our selves. People who seek to know us through sophisticated and/or complicated mathematics; fail to get to know us, and fail to come to know how little they know compared to what they might come to know through other non/mathematical approaches. Attempts to formulate comprehensive theories regarding the universe through manipulations, measurements, objectification, and mathematically sophisticated and/or complex procedures are doomed to failure; because such procedures cannot lead to an approach to people who are part of the universe---in a manner which will result in any meaningful discoveries about the people who know the most about themselves as parts of the universe. Mathematically, knowledgeable people tend to be difficult to get to know as persons, because they are on guard and psychologically very complex beings. Their theories of the universe carefully avoid all considerations of the nature of the observers of the universe, and avoid all considerations of the intimate personal relationships between/among the observers of the universe. Their theories do not deal with the relationships which are of primary interest to most of the observers of the universe! In what sense can such theories be regarded as comprehensive or meaningful? They may be interesting and in some sense practical; but that is not the same as being comprehensive and/or meaningful. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
