Scientists and technicians are not value neutral; their paradigms are not value neutral; their services are not value neutral. Only participants in addictions and their codependent supporters' collusive games of mutual self deception believe that scientists and technicians can serve in value neutral ways. Scientists and their supportive technicians are dedicated to the values of learning how to control impersonal objects through: analysis, measurement, linear logic, impersonal manipulations, & dichotomous reasoning; where statements are true or false, eliminate mystery; and focus on objectivity, mathematical logic, and confirmation of predictions. Their ideals, values, beliefs and perceptions are more like those of addicts and their supportive codependents, than like those of healthy people with the integrity which comes from being free of unhealthy addictive and codependent ways of perceiving, believing, thinking, feeling and behaving --- so as to be in control. When we go to scientists and technocrats and ask for their help in fulfilling our ideals, we usually get seduced into believing in the worth of their assumptions, beliefs, values, ideals, and techniques. They lead us to slowly and imperceptibly change our ideals and values to conform to theirs, so that they can do their things in our service, while we are led to think that they are fulfilling our ideals and values. The results are usually tragic as in the military arms races of the 20th century; with unlimited increases in how destructive wepons are made and increases in the fraction of victims of war that are non-combattants. "Smart" bombs kill more civilians than they kill combattants. We need to transcend the scientific and technical revolutions, and move onto revolutions in reflexive clarification of the ways in which our highest ideals and values often lead us into tragically addictive and codependent ways of perceiving, believing, thinking, feeling and behaving.
