In appearance, the changes are almost un-detectable, for the changes are subconsciously designed to be invisible. In practice, the effect of the changes is to change course slowly to conform to the tragically misguided perceptions, attitudes and beliefs which characterize addicts and their codependent supporters. The changes are kept imperceptible by retaining most of the words of the standard logic by which the old course was made to appear rational. The changes are hidden in the imperceptible changes in the meanings and uses of the words which continue to be used; in the imperceptible changes in the rules by which meaning is read "between the lines". Through imperceptible tacit changes in assumptions, perceptions, attitudes and beliefs old statements slowly come to have new meanings which are under the hidden control of addicts and their codependent supporters. Under the control of addicts and their codependent supporters, there develop many collusive tacit agreements according to which few statements are taken at face meaning. The agreements are not ever overtly confirmed, so there is confusion about exactly what has been agreed to. Such confusion is consistent with the overall tragic pattern of change which is guided by respected principles of manipulative dishonesty. The changes considered individually do not make much of a difference, for the changes are small and subtle; but over a period of time the effect of the small and subtle changes accumulate, and the whole course of individual and communal lives changes from integration to disintegration. It is important to learn how to recognize the beginning of the tragic patterns of subtle small changes which occur under the leadership of addicts and their codependent supporters. If we do not recognize the pattern of small subtle changes, they will lead us into tragic patterns of attitudes, thought and behavior. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
