They are unwilling to recognize and admit that their standards for professional publication are designed to conceal the misleading aspects of their professional life. The control of the media of publication inhibits the revelation of the professional dishonesty which conceals the collusions of the profession. The medium is not entirely the message, but the control of the medium may control the honest messages which might otherwise flow. Professional publications are designed to serve the profession and its standard assumptions, values, ideals, perceptions, and attitudes; including those which are characteristic of organizational addictions and collusions. Professionals who seek to call into question the dishonesty which characterizes their profession will most likely have to detach from their profession to avoid being preoccupied with fighting its compulsive games of professional self defense. Constantly being engaged in such fighting undermines the personal recovery of a professional who has begun to recognize the addictions of the profession. Constant engagement in such battles serves the professional collusions, for through such battles potential prophets are kept busy in ways which undermine their ability to reveal professional dishonesty to those outside the profession. Addicts who defend professional dishonesty cannot be controlled; and attempts to control them drag those who try to control them into the addictive patterns of behavior of the profession. Personal recovery and professional recovery from the addictive patterns of professional thought, attitudes, and behavior are more likely to be served through charitable personal detachments, than through compulsively engaging in conflict.
