Natural scientists believe that their paradigm is better than other paradigms because within their paradigm are rules for rejecting specific sub-paradigms which do not with integrity contribute without fail to the meta- paradigm. Scientists seek objective evidence and require that all objective evidence fit according to specific rules of logic into an integrated whole. Sub-paradigms are rejected if they cannot be rationalized to fit into the meta-paradigm as part of an empirical whole. Natural scientists who have committed their whole lives to their meta-paradigm fail to recognize that within their meta-paradigm are rules which dictate what kinds of experience may be legitimately considered to be evidence, and what kinds of logic may be legitimately considered to be rational. The rules of selection serve the meta- paradigm and protect the meta-paradigm against exposure of its flaws. Those who serve the meta-paradigm are blinded by it, so that they cannot consciously have experiences and perceptions which would undermine the meta-paradigm's collusions and taboos. Natural scientists are not trained in any formal way to examine their assumptions in the light of philosophers, theologians, psychologists, sociologists, psychiatrists, anthropologists, or personal counselors. Through narrow specialization they avoid gaining the skills which would enable them to see the weaknesses of their meta-paradigm. While committed to their meta-paradigm they cannot transcend its most essential values, ideals, assumptions, and presuppositions; and cannot see the nature of their specialization prison.
