Such good people are often playing the role of paternalistic co-dependents who seek to take good care of addictive children whose dependency the co-dependents desperately need. Good people's manipulative tools include such things as guilt, shame, conscience, perfectionism, competitiveness, insecurity, rejection, alienation, excommunication, shunning, dis-fellowship, etc. When in the intended service of good purposes such alienative tools are used to get people to behave properly, the tools come to dominate the process, rather than serve any integrative purpose. Such tools are essentially alienative in effect, regardless of the intended purpose. Such alienative tools can not be used effectively to promote both personal and communal integrity. Technicians who choose alienative tools to do their job are idolatrous technocrats who put the use of their tools ahead of the purpose for which they ostensibly choose their tools. Highly specialized people tend to become technocrats due to the narrowness of their vision. Their "educational" programs do not educe integrative insights; rather, they indoctrinate narrow perspectives of the nature of reality, and of possible human participation in reality. Specialization which alienates the specialist from the majority of people creates technocrats who are incompetent to serve the majority of people, no matter how competent they are in their narrow specialty. Such specialists are not competent to serve as teachers and professors in genuine educational systems, no matter how competent they may be in their research and knowledge systems. Liberating educators teach their students to recognize the tragic consequences of technocrats' ideals, values and behaviors for what they are. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
