Scientists seek to be able to fully understand, predict and control everything. Scientists are part of the universe which they seek to understand, predict and control; thus their paradigm is essentially self-referential, reflexive. The more objectively successful objective people are in understanding, predicting and controlling objects; the more important it is for them to personally understand how their objectivity is threatening their own integrity and that of planet Earth. Without personal integrity objective people can not coherently control their newly discovered power to destroy their coherent planet's ecosystem which occupies just a tiny part of the universe. Self deception about habits of trying to be objective is not characteristic of people who enjoy personal integrity. Mutual self deception is not characteristic of people who enjoy communal integrity. Efforts to maintain the illusion of the possibility of total objectivity undermine efforts to promote both personal and communal integrity on a planetary scale. Integrity with regards to our perceptions of the objective world will disintegrate unless it is integrated into efforts to promote both personal and communal integrity on a planetary scale. Scientists can not succeed as independent individuals who seek to protect themselves against rejection by choosing values and ideals according to which personal rejection is not respectable. Choosing to be an independent individualist is not an effective protection against alienation which leads to evil and sin experienced as the disintegration of patterns of mutual dialogue. Excluding oneself from a community is not much of a defense against being excluded from the community; nor is pretending not to care about being a member of the broadest possible community any protection against the loneliness of rejection.
