               %REFLEXIVE PERCEPTION & SIGNIFICANCE 860618

     There are many layers of perception.

     Light is emitted from an object,  passes through  the
human eye lens,  falls on a retina forming an image,  rods
and cones send signals  to cells in the  brain,  the brain
perceives   a   pattern   which   registers consciously or
unconsciously,   significance  is  associated  with   that
pattern,  meaning is attached,  interpretations  are made,
etc.    All  of  this happens too fast  for  there  to  be
reflexive   consciousness   of  all  that   is   involved,
especially  so  if the object of perception is  inherently
reflexive  in  character;   e.g.,  a  person in  a  loving
relationship.

     Wise  perceptions  of  reflexive  relationships   are
themselves  reflexive  actions which depend as  much  upon
reflexive beliefs,  convictions,  theoretical  structures,
etc---as  upon any objective realities which are  entailed
in  the processes.   The meanings and satisfactions  which
flow from  reflexive perceptions depend upon the wisdom or
lack of wisdom entailed in the process of perception---due
to  the  choice  of assumptions,  beliefs  and  states  of
consciousness    which   help   to   generate    reflexive
perceptions.

     Wise  reflexive perceptions are  inhibited/undermined
by exclusively objective beliefs,  assumptions and  states
of  consciousness.    From within the I-It mode  of  being
reflexive  wisdom  does not flow.   Rather it flows as  we
move together  into  being in the I-Thou mode of  dialogue
and cooperation.   Human dialogue  and cooperation are not
objective modes of being.  The more intimate they are, and
the  more  they  involve safe  vulnerability  in  mutually
reflexive personal relationships---the less objective they
are.

     It  is  logically impossible for scientists  who  are
exclusively dedicated to objectivity and analysis to be in
intimate  dialogue  and  cooperation with  each  other  to
fulfill  the  object of  their  dedication.    Dedication,
intimacy, dialogue,  cooperation fulfillment and goals are
not objective realities.   It is logically absurd for such
realities to be central realities in scientists' exclusive
dedication to objectivity and in their consequent patterns
of  reflexive  behavior which are intended to help fulfill
such a dedication---with  its  associated reflexive mutual
expectations,    perceptions,   repressions,    judgments,
excommunications,   alienations,  rewards and punishments.
Scientists' games of mutual self deception regarding their
