Such people seek technical solutions where technical solutions can not exist, and pretend to have found technical solutions to dilemmas which are not technical problems. People who are skillful in facilitating and leading dialogues are people who have the integrity to be helpful political leaders. They can help people make the connections which are essential to coherent communities which embody both personal and communal integrity. In the absence of open and honest dialogue there can be neither personal nor communal integrity; and so there can be neither genuine communities nor genuine individuals. Great political leaders are dialogue leaders; not people with correct ideas, priorities, images, or "connections". Not even the most effective "communicators" are great political leaders in the the absence of their facilitating and leading others into and through open and honest dialogue. Greatness lies in the facilitation and leading of diverse peoples into and through open and honest dialogue. Greatness has to do with facilitating communication---with helping others be in mutual communication with people who are different as regards perceptions, convictions, assumptions, ideals, values, etc. Communications can be seductive, misleading, confusing, and in other ways be the means to violent manipulation. Coercive communications are not worthy of respect. Communications which facilitate people's games of mutual self deception are not worthy of respect. Communications which help people to continue to be addicted to drugs, food, money, technology, weapons, dogma, rituals, nationalism, racism, etc. are not communications worthy of respect. Communications which undermine open and honest dialogue among differing people are communications which are not worthy of respect. Great political leaders do not engage in, nor facilitate, such perverse communications. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
