%ARTICULATION INTEGRATIVE IDEALS 860219
The clear articulation of integrative ideals is one
key to the transcendence of sub-cultural dichotomies which
occasion disintegrative taboos leading to self and mutual
rejection. Traditional bases for human rejection need to
be examined and assessed in terms of the natural
consequences to which they lead; e.g., consequences which
undermine intuitive bases for respect which have generated
communities with integrity.
Rejections lead to the break-down of communications
which are essential to communal integrity. Ideals which
lead to rejections are thus disintegrative and lead to the
disintegration of communities. The violation of such
disintegrative ideals without the articulation of
alternative transcendent ideals recognized as such---will
lead to the rejection of the people who violate the
disintegrative ideals for integrative reasons. Taboos
which lead to rejections are not transcended by merely
doing violence to the taboos in an effort to destroy the
taboos. Fearful and offended people are more likely to
reject the violators of the taboos, than the taboos.
Fearful people need firm grounds upon which to base a
transcendence of their fears. Attacks upon that which
they respect as their best defense against what they
fear---will not lead to their relaxation and to
their transcendence of their fears. Attacks lead to
increased paranoia and defensiveness. The clear
articulation and/or incarnation of integrative ideals
that point towards behavior patterns which elicit
intuitive respect will be more helpful.
Essential also are steps to integrate rational and
cognitive considerations with intuitive and instinctive
considerations. Neither type of consideration is adequate
in isolation. People who arrogantly behave otherwise
become alienated from each other. Their communities
disintegrate for lack of adequate communication within,
between and among people of differing dominant
dispositions. Cultural dichotomies grow rather than heal.
The growth of such dichotomies obscures their roots and
the nature of what nurtures them. Ultimately the feed-
back loops of such growth lead to the total disintegration
of the communities which permit the disintegration of
channels of communication.
