There is an inherent lack of symmetry in their objective; their mental processes are not independent of the objective processes outside of them as persons, but they presume that the objective processes outside of them as persons are independent of the mental processes inside them as persons. This lack of symmetry is in contrast to the devotion to symmetry which characterizes their most highly developed theories of elementary processes regarding the most elementary constituents of objective realities. Thus at the cognitive level there is a lack of congruence between the ideals of the theory the elementary constituents and the ideals regarding the relationships between scientists as persons and the objective of their analysis. There is a lack of mutuality in the relationships between scientists as persons and the objects of their analysis. This lack of congruence is found in the relationships between the various ways of coping which are chosen by scientists within various contexts. As persons they make value judgments regarding which mode of coping is most appropriate in each context---and often contend that their value judgments properly exclude other complimentary modes of coping, feeling there can be only one right answer to each question. Such exclusivity impoverishes their lives, limiting them to primarily cognitive relationships. Their cognitive lives are not congruent with their emotional and affective lives. They do not value emotional openness and honesty as highly as cognitive openness and honesty. Scientists' cognitive processes are not congruent with their emotional and affective lives as persons who cope according to desires, instincts, and passions in a common-sensibly understood world of interacting sub- cultures. The lack of congruence undermines the integrity of their total effort. Scientists do not value highly enough the human need to be free---and to have the right to be open and honest emotionally and affectively, as well as cognitively. Communication freedoms too often take second place. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
