Since unintended consequences were not anticipated---they are not responsible for such consequences. A way to be free of responsibility is therefore to avoid awareness of the consequences of one's behavior. Scientists avoid a sense of responsibility for their affective behavior by repressing awareness of the emotional consequences of their affective behavior, and even repressing awareness of the existence of affective behavior on their part. One can not be responsible for behavior in which one does not engage---at least to the best of one's knowledge. Scientists thus help maintain the image of science (and scientists) as being value neutral by muting scientists' awareness of affective behavior and its consequences. The scientists' educational programs avoid any conscious or deliberate effort to educate scientists regarding the affective/emotional aspect of one's behavior one can have no con-science and no guilt regarding it. Ignorance is moral bliss, and so is maintained in the interests of avoiding judgmental excommunication at the hands of respected self-righteous legalists. Scientists are engaged in emotional education. The fact that they are unaware of how they emotionally educate the next generation of scientists---does not make emotional educations cease. Technical education takes place in the context of an emotional framework. The repression of emotions and compulsively pretending that emotions are unimportant while systematically avoiding emotional personal relationships creates an emotional context just as real as deliberately setting out to create a chosen emotional context for technical education. It is impossible to avoid creating an emotional context for technical education, and only participants in collusions pretend otherwise. By pretending scientists try to avoid openly engaging in deliberations about which kind of emotional context will most promote the public welfare and their welfare. Ignorance is bliss---for a while.
