People who are unwilling to compromise often seek to affirm certain values as if they were of ultimate importance in all possible situations. Such people cannot withdraw the affirmation of a positive value when the value is being affirmed outside the range of it's propriety---for to them there is an infinite range of propriety for their most important values. For them to compromise is to be unfaithful to their ultimate concern---so compromise is unthinkable, terrible, depraved, evil, etc. They, as servants of their ultimate concerns, must be soldiers in the war to make their values triumph over competing values which would motivate different behavior in certain unique situations. As servants of their ultimate values they will often be found avoiding conflict resolution through collusion, conspiracy, delusion, elusion, extremism, subtlety, respectability, power-politics, violence, domination, etc. Those who would seek to promote conflict resolution can do so by affirming the importance of open channels of communication, and through the withdrawal of the affirmation of positive values in situations where their affirmation undermines open and honest communication. Conflict resolution comes through mutual: awareness, understanding, vulnerability, respect, desire, service, and consummation; none of which can occur in the absence of open channels of communication. Those who seek to avoid conflict resolution can do so by affirming values in situations where to affirm them will block channels of communication. The ultimate sin is to intentionally block channels of communication. It is the ultimate sin which cannot be meaningfully forgiven because an aspect of forgiveness is the acceptance of the restoration of communication without pre-condition or post-condition. Arrogant self-righteous persons who believe themselves to be saved by their service to idolatrous positive values cannot compromise their principles and accept forgiveness and conflict resolution---so they promote violent conflict and the technologies of violent conflict.
