Their focus is upon ideal forms as standards of judgment, rather than upon affirming people as whole beings. Faultfinders are never contented. Reality never conforms accurately enough to ideal forms to satisfy perfect faultfinders. The perfect faultfinder will not be contented with the perfect faultfinder. The frustration occasioned by not being able to find perfect realizations of ideal forms---is thus directed at finding faults in real people. Such faultfinding causes many children to cease to live--- conforming themselves to unimaginative standardized ideal forms of faultfinders. The frustrations of each such homogenized existence is expressed in even further faultfinding---which intensifies the good and evil in society, polarizing society into dichotomized subcultures characterized by distinctive exclusive values. In this way faultfinders can specialize and become experts in identifying subtle faults which would escape detection by generalists. They take pride in such excellent faultfinding, and look with condescension upon others who uncritically affirm imperfect persons as whole beings. Since there are no perfect persons, affirmations are never shared among faultfinders. Affirmations transcend imperfections which are the ultimate concern of faultfinders. Affirmations focus upon living together as real persons, not upon conforming to ideal forms which are static. Affirmations pertain to dynamic processes and growth. Ideal forms pertain to statics. Thus faultfinders do not promote creative change; they seek to achieve a static goal which distracts them from making helpful affirmations. Were you to present a perfect faultfinder with a potentially productive gold mine, the gold would not be noticed---the attention would be directed to the useless bulk of rock. It will not be helpful to find fault with such compulsive faultfinding. It will be helpful to promote the emotional growth of faultfinders so they might be free to relate more positively with imperfect real persons. This will be difficult, since emotional growth involves making mistakes and accepting acceptance which is not based upon ideal forms of good and evil. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
