What they become aware of depends upon many factors: 1. Their respective heredities, heritages, cultures, languages, experiences, fears, hopes, aspirations, etc. 2. How free they are to become involved in new additional relationships --- considering how much they are already involved in relationships which make demands on their times and energies. 3. How exclusive the other participants in their current relationships are; e.g., possessive, limiting, controlling, constraining --- or liberating, generous, and supportive. 4. How willing the people in meetings are to be changed by any new additional relationships; versus how intent they may be to be in control of any new additional relationship. 5. How secure the people are --- in the sense of being free to be safely vulnerable in being true to themselves and each other --- exploring new relational possibilities. Often when people "meet" they are not truly free to meet each other, and they fear each other so much that the relationships which do develop between them are dominated by fear, anxiety, apprehension, prejudice, confusion, distrust, and defensive preparations. They are not free to choose more creative, integrative and friendly kinds of relationships. They are not free to participate in conflict resolution, reconciliation, or peacemaking.
