Recognize, name, describe and talk about the lack of admiration, praise, appreciation and honor within their community. 2. Recognize, name, describe and talk about the variety of reasons for there being the lack of admiration, praise, appreciation and honor within their community. 3. Recognize, name, describe and talk about the disintegrative consequences of there being the lack of admiration, praise, appreciation and honor within their community. 4. Recognize, name, describe and talk about the variety of ways in which they can work together to remedy the lack of admiration, praise, appreciation and honor within their community. ALSO: 1. If any one of the above steps is not taken it is very unlikely that the steps following it will be taken. 2. Each community will most likely be different from each other community. There can be no universal cure for the difficulties of all different communities. Thus, each community must take the above step two in a way appropriate to itself. Even so, it will be helpful for communities to be aware of the reasons recognized in other communities. The reasons for there being the lack of admiration, praise, appreciation and honor within a community will probably include some of the following: People who have been admired, praised, appreciated and honored have turned out to be unworthy of admiration, praise, appreciation and honor---and people who don't want to repeat making that kind of mistake have become overly skeptical. Consider all the scandals related to "great" religious, political, business and professional leaders. People who have been admired, praised, appreciated and honored have been destroyed by disintegrative people; and so people hide what is worthy of admiration, praise, appreciation and honor --- so as not to come to the attention of disintegrative people. Consider all the great leaders who have been crucified and assassinated by disintegrative people. People may feel that there is some inherent scarcity in supply of admiration, praise, appreciation and honor; and are inclined to hoard it. 3. Communities in which there is a scarcity of admiration, praise, appreciation and honor: Tend towards negativity and destructive patterns of behavior; e.g., towards cynicism, skepticism, criticism and paranoia. Tend to become unbalanced and unstable and therefore prone to destructive revolutions when people week to turn things around to regain balance and stability. Tend to lose clear visions of how to make prudent evaluations, judgements and affirmations. Tend to lose enthusiasm for working to conceive and achieve integrative goals. 4. In the face of any real lack of admiration, praise, appreciation and honor --- there are not likely to be many people who have the vision to imagine, envision, and/or clearly see what they might to do improve the integrity and health of their community. In even the worst of situations there are always a few people around who merit admiration, praise, appreciation and honor. The starting point is always with such people. Admire them, praise them, appreciate them and honor them in ways appropriate to them and your community. Focus upon the positive and help it to grow. If you focus upon the negative --- you are likely to help it grow. (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
