According to scientists' belief in the transcendent importance of objectivity---they should focus their attention exclusively upon objective relationships---and so avoid the dangers of focusing upon reflexive relationships. Thus they should treat each other as objects which are involved in objective relationships with each other. Male and female scientists should regard each other objectively as objects---without becoming involved in reflexive relationships. It is not possible, however, for sexually motivated males to regard sexually attractive females as objects without becoming involved in reflexive relationships---by regarding the sexually attractive females as sex-objects which might be used objectively to achieve certain goals. Thus dominant male scientists who are compulsively objective act in ways which minimize these conflicts by minimizing the disturbing presence of sexually attractive females, or by repressing awareness of reflexive motivations. They cannot see that their behaviors are dominated by non-objective considerations which are essentially reflexive, and so the considerations are hidden from their view. To be true to themselves and each other scientists must give up their fixation upon objectivity as the way to avoid bias---because it is the way to invisible bias. We must transcend the paradigm of objectivity in order to enjoy both personal and communal integrity. Scientists who are compulsively fixated upon objectivity cannot relate to each other honestly and wisely with due regard for their reflexive relationships. To deal wisely with inter-personal relationships scientists must honestly acknowledge AND TALK ABOUT the essential roles which reflexive relationships play in every aspect of their lives.
