Two line segments may be immediately adjacent to each other and so have a point at the end of each segment which is the boundary between the two adjacent line segments. A distinction is even made as to whether the boundary point is part of both line segments, part only of one line segment, or between the two line segments, but not part of either. The above considerations can be extended to two dimensional surfaces which are parts of a surface which is itself two dimensional; and the boundaries between such parts, which boundaries are straight or curved continuous lines. Then, of course, the considerations can be extended to three, four, five, etc. dimensions in multi- dimensional topologies. Can we talk meaningfully, or agree with each other tacitly in meaningful ways, about topologies in the multi- dimensional spaces of: OUR BODIES OUR MINDS OUR BRAINS OUR EMOTIONS OUR THOUGHTS OUR DESIRES OUR INTENTIONS OUR HOPES OUR EXPECTATIONS OUR SPIRITS OUR SOULS OUR HEARTS OUR SIGNIFICANCE OUR MEANINGS OUR BEINGS OUR SUBJECTIVITY OUR REFLEXIVITY OUR OBJECTIVITY Do the "things" which are "ours: hover among the realms of objectivity, reflexivity and subjectivity? Can we with clarity and meaning talk about the topology of such "things" which are ours? If we do not talk about "things" which are "ours", can we avoid tacitly agreeing with others about our various tacit assumptions, beliefs and convictions regarding the topology of such "things" which are ours? What if we are tacitly in conflict, rather than in agreement; in "our" tacit assumptions, beliefs and convictions regarding the topology of such "things" which are ours? Where in the tacit topologies of our "things" are our tacit differences and/or conflicts regarding the topology of our "things"? If we cannot be clear (overtly or tacitly) about the differences between the "things" which are ours, how then can we think clearly and be in clear dialogue about the "things" which are ours? Are the "things" which are ours---objective, reflexive, and/or subjective realities? Where are the boundaries between them? What kinds of "things" are "between" them? It may seem useless to talk overtly or think overtly about questions such as these! Is it better not to talk overtly or think overtly about questions such as these; but yet to agree tacitly or think subconsciously about questions such as these? Can we avoid the latter, and if so, how? (c) 2005 by Paul A. Smith in (On Being Yourself, Whole and Healthy) ==========================================================
