People can be addicted to analysis as a means to control through analytic understanding. Addictive analysis often leads to separation and alienation, but rarely to healthy connections and integration. Addictive analysis is often violent; violating the integrity of some object of analysis through a refusal to respect the integrity of the whole as a mysterious/holy whole by regarding it only in terms of the parts into which it is analyzed. The object of analysis may not be just an object, but it is treated as being just an object rather than as being sacred/holy as a whole. The dictum of addictive analysis is "divide and conquer". Connections, dialogue, communications, honesty and other integrities which might stand in the way of conquest must be destroyed in order to conquer, so division is accomplished through analysis which shows no respect for the whole's integrity. Addictive analysis is justified in terms of the fruits of healthy analysis which serves people in integrative ways---in keeping with integrative ideals and values which are incarnate in balanced ways in people/communities of integrity. The justification of addictive analysis is thus dishonest and does not merit respect or support. Addictive analysis sees reality only in terms of elementary parts regarded as the essential elements of a whole reality. In the view of addictive analysts the integrity of the whole is to be understood in terms of the most elementary parts into which the whole can be analyzed---by addictive analysts who are fixated upon analysis. The fact that addictive analysts succeed in fulfilling their analytic visions does not prove that their visions lead to personal and communal integrity; for their visions do not include personal and communal integrity. Their visions are exclusively analytic, not integrative. Thus their visions often lead to dis- integration---rather than to integration, integrity, and health. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
