On the one hand because of their compulsive dedication to always being objective as their highest ideal and value; they cannot deal openly, honestly and wisely with their own emotions. Emotions are reflexive, not objective. To be reflexive is to be NOT objective; but one must always be objective to be perfect as a compulsive objectivist. Thus emotions are to be avoided, denied, repressed, etc. On the other hand humans do have emotional needs. To the compulsive objectivists the combination of the two words "emotional needs" is an oxymoron; a combination of two words with contradictory meaning---like "dry water" or "honest deception". Emotions by their very existence threaten the collusive paradigm of compulsive objectivists; emotions are realities with negative connotations. How can we have emotional needs? How about "frustration needs", "pain needs", "confusion needs"? At the same time even compulsive objectivists do have needs for communal acceptance, affection, sexual relationships, social connections, gifts of security, intimacy, etc. Yet their paradigm and professional training do not make provisions for dealing with the full range of their needs. Not only is provision not made, their training leads them to believe in ways of living which place blockages in the way of making provisions for emotional needs outside the context of their professional training.
