Prostitutions are relationships which lack integrity. In prostitutions people related to each other in dishonest ways, seeking fixes for what they perceive to be wrong with them, lacking in them, imperfect in them, etc. Prostitutional relationships may be mutually agreeable and still lack integrity, honesty and significant meaning. In prostitutional relationships the participants seek meaning which cannot be found through dishonesty; not even through mutual dishonesty in collusive games of mutual self deception which are communally respected and supported. So long as prostitutional relationships have dishonesty as a central aspect of the relationships, making them respectable will not make them be integrative; for no form of dishonesty can be integrative. Making the sale of dishonesty respectable does not make the sale of dishonesty integrative. Not all forms of prostitution are sexual in character. There are political, business, educational, professional, scientific, technocratic and religious prostitutions; to suggest only a few common forms. Often prostitutions do entail sexuality, because sexuality is so pervasive in human relationships. Yet, sexuality is not the essence of prostitution; and to regard sexuality as the essence of prostitution is to generate confusion as to what it is that makes prostitution disintegrative. Dishonesty is more the essence of what makes prostitution disintegrative than sexuality is. It is dishonest to pretend otherwise. Attempts to control prostitution may be addictive attempts to control sexuality, especially if sexuality is perceived to be the essence of what makes prostitution disintegrative. Each attempt to control prostitution needs to be examined to honestly see what the motives of the initiators of the attempt to control are. Are the initiators honest about themselves? Are there signs that they are sexually healthy/unhealthy? Do they demonstrate a sensitivity to the difference between what can be controlled, and what cannot be controlled? Are they taking care of themselves well enough and honestly enough to be able to offer assistance to others who really and honestly need and are seeking help in taking care of themselves?
