A paradigm may inhibit discovery/conception as well as facilitate discovery/conception. A collusive paradigm is a paradigm which inhibits the discovery of the truth about how incomplete the paradigm is. A collusive paradigm is pretending to be complete; it is exclusively pretentious, excluding from consideration experiences, facts, observations, feelings, affections, perceptions, etc. which call into question how complete the paradigm is. Addicts and their network of supportive codependents are participants in a collusive paradigm. They seek salvation in technocratic manipulation, coercion, deception, control, perfection, etc. which shows little concern for the integrity of personal and communal relationships. The neglect is tragic in deadly ways. Anytime that a paradigm focuses attention narrowly upon individual salvation without due regard for the integrity of relationships and the community, the paradigm is likely to be operating as a collusive paradigm. The truth is that there is no individual salvation in the absence of integrity of personal and communal relationships; and integrity involves in essential ways a tenacious seeking after the uncomfortable truths which transcend the dominant paradigm. To be liberated, free, we must be constantly seeking to discover the uncomfortable truths about the ways in which our paradigm may be inhibiting our own processes of discovery/conception, as well as facilitating our processes of discovery/conception. The majority of scientists and engineers are participants in a dominant paradigm which focuses far too exclusively upon objectivity, measurement, computation, systematics, manipulation, coercion, control, prediction, regularity, perfection, pretentious completeness, depersonalization, predictable relationships, avoiding reflexive relationships, etc. Their dominant paradigm leads them to avoid discovering the truth about complementary relationships about which they know and care very little. They are imprisoned by their dominant paradigm, and know only very exclusive kinds of truths. (c) 2005 by Paul A.
