The recognition of such leadership is central to the integration of communities torn by conflict and violence which is rooted in conflicting ideals and angry reactions to past violence. The refinement of exclusively intellectual of exclusively affective behavior to the exclusion of maturity in the other does not contribute to the integration of communities torn by conflict and violence, and may exacerbate such conflict and violence. Specialization is not integrative in nature and often tends to promote disintegration. Learned studies, discussions and publications about the integration of affect and intellect are no substitute for real people behaving as role models of affectively open and honest behavior which is expressive of personal integrity which is affirmed as intelligent. Reasoning, proofs, logic and other forms of cognitive behavior are not substitute for real living examples of integrative behavior. People who are affectively "with it" but who are not intellectually mature can not offer powerful leadership towards the integration of affect and intellect.
